Dré K. B. - Day In The Life

André Kanor Berry, known by his stage name Dré K. B., is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and poe t. André was born in Newport News, Virginia on October 21, 1991 and grew up in Gloucester, Virginia where he was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. At the age of 5 he was writing and illustrating short stories for school which impressed his teachers. By age 7 he began writing poetry. The first poem he wrote was for his great-aunt's retirement party. His love for music came about when his maternal grandmother allowed him to use her old record player and record collection. He took a particular liking to Motown artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations and was a big fan of Michael Jackson's 1979 album Off The Wall.

At age 8 he started writing raps, inspired by his older cousin who would come down from Connecticut to visit their grandmother during the summer. This lead to him having friendly battles against his cousin in which his cousin saw potential in Dré. He went on to form a Rap group with childhood friends and performed in school talent shows, often being a crowd favorite. At 16 he dropped out of high school and earned his GED. He moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with his older brother and went regularly to ImaginOn, a landmark learning center located in Charlotte. There he learned more about producing and engineering. He moved back to Gloucester at age 17 and started making mixtapes for his friends.

A female friend of his suggested he upload his music on Youtube. André first uploaded songs he wrote using industry instrumentals then eventually started producing original compositions. After several stage names he would go on to perform under the name Dré K. B. (a take on his birth name). In earlier years, Dré would mainly perform music in the Hip-Hop and R&B genre, however he has since went on to experiment with other genres such as Jazz, Garage Rock, Country, and Synth-Pop. This took some of his longtime listeners by surprise, but has since garnered praise for its creativity and uniqueness.
