No stranger to the stage, Lamont “Popp Da Rippa” Nanton has been performing in venues all over the south and nationally for many years, proving that he has staying power. He has opened up for major acts such as Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, H-Town, Doug E Fresh and more. As a young man, growing up in Opa Locka, Florida, Popp was exposed to the street life which heavily influenced his early work. His lyrics reflected what he saw, heard and did. Those experiences shaped him, but by 2008, also showed him that he wasn’t living up to his full potential. Popp had what he calls a "God Encounter", and knew from that point on that he was destined for more. Tearing down his self-imposed boundaries, he re-emerged a new man, freed from negativity and desperate to use his musical gifts for good. Da Rippa shifted musical directions, and never looked back.
As the founding father of I.C.E. Squad Entertainment, Popp meshes his love for music with an entrepreneurial spirit and I.C.E. Squad, the rap group, is his latest brainchild. Popp’s lyrical annihilation of the microphone is evident on records like “Go Live” and “Get Right”. The vigor with which he steps into the booth resounds throughout the studio and his fierce lyrical flow and powerful delivery cannot be ignored.
