Sharonda Gilbert, known as Obveus, has been on the music scene for well over 18 years. She has worked with industry professionals such as the Grammy nominated artist Joe, Lords of the Underground, and SWV’s producer Keith Miller. Obveus’s first album Lyrik, drew the attention of several recording labels and she was offered two record deals. After much consideration, Obevus decided to remain independent. Wanting to stay true to her music and style, she continued to perfect her craft and make music her way.
A lyrical wordsmith, Obveus uses her life experiences to weave vivid tales through her music. Obveus states, “People can relate to my music because it’s real. It’s about relationships, heart break, hardships and survival.” Obveus was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. In and out of foster homes until the age of 18, Obveus took to the streets and adopted a family of her own. It was through her street family where she learned that at the end of the day, truth, loyalty and respect means everything in the “hood”.
Obveus draws inspiration from musical geniuses such as Tupac Shakur, Nas and Mos Def. Obveus’s new single, Relevant Reason is currently available for download.
