Jonnie Morris - Back Down

Jonnie Morris - Back Down

Jonnie Morris is a rapper, songwriter and singer born and raised on the Westside of Detroit Michigan. He is also the son of popular local R&B singer Jonnie Keith Morris.

After his father passed at the young age of five, Jonnie started to listen to hip-hop music as an outlet for his pain and grieving. He would listen to legendary artists such as DMX, Notorious B.I.G, Eminem and Royce DA 5’9. His access to these artists’s music and many other rap artists while growing up came as a direct result of Jonnie digging through his uncle’s extensive CD collection of rap music, most of the time without his permission. When he was in 5th grade at the age of 12, Jonnie wrote his first of many rap songs.

Throughout his high school years, Jonnie faced many hardships including being bullied and being constantly picked on for not having the latest shoes or designer clothes that other kids were wearing at the time.

Rap music would come to the rescue of Jonnie often and help him make it through these struggles. Jonnie credits rap music for helping him make it through some of the toughest times and experiences he has had in life.

At the age of 20, Jonnie decided to start establishing his career as a recording artist. He recorded and released his first song titled “My Thoughts” on Soundcloud. Gaining over 500 listens within its first two days of being released.

Jonnie began to write and record more and more, while working on his craft and finding his own identity as an artist. After giving himself a three year plan to release his first project, Jonnie was further inspired to succeed after the birth of his son.

Through his raspy and emotional storytelling records about pain, love, mistakes and mental health, Jonnie’s first project, released in October of 2018 entitled “It’s Beautiful and All Good” has been well received by critics and rap music fans around the world.
